5in5

5in5

ODan White has decided to issue a challenge. 5 songs in 5 days. New songs. The whole idea is to get creative. I am the first to admit that I am not the most creative person when it comes to music. I am not the greatest at playing chord charts, and in all my years of piano playing and singing, I have NEVER written a song. But there is a song on my heart. Actually, a few of them. What better way to challenge myself by committing out loud that “yes, I will try to write something!”

I totally admire people who compose. It takes talent for sure, but it also takes GUTS. I have always been terribly afraid of what people think or say about me, and when you compose you are putting it all out there. For criticism, for snide remarks, for laughing. At least, that is what I think of when I have any thoughts of composing something and then having my friends look at it, tweek it or criticize it. So…here you go world, my first song. Tweek, criticize and laugh away! I am quite proud of it…because it is my first…but not my last!

*Special Note: Noah (my 5 year old) helped me with this one! All of the words came from him. (And one line from Titus)

(I asked Noah…what is one thing that you think of when you think about Jesus?) Excuse the recording…best I could do for right now!

Victory! (Click here to hear it!)

Jesus you’re victorious

You are strong and mighty

Jesus you’re victorious

You are God

There’s nothing our God cannot do

Because He died on the cross for me and you

So He can wash our sins away

So we can go and play everyday

I have an even better version with Titus yelling at us in the background. What fun!

Love it! And I love how you resisted the urge to rhyme “victorious” with “glorious” like we always do! :) Way to stay strong.

ha! The beauty of a 5 year old…no pre-determined “way it should go” yet in him!

Oh no! If you just click on the blue Victory it should work…but no video, just loud piano banging!

Yeah, tried that. It starts to load, then just a big grey box in the middle of the screen and no sound.

Way to train up young in the way they should go, Eliza. And good for you taking on this challenge! Smash the box!

Box smashed…and I am loving it. Noah is becoming my best critic now! And he is inspired to start piano lessons!

I love this — that you wrote it with your boys, that you say it’s not your last song, that the word Noah chose about Jesus was “victory”! Good job!

Thanks Eleanor! I love it that we are all doing this together. Totally needed the challenge.
